Two Teens Sentenced To Prison For Carving Swastika Into Teen’s Forehead

PORTLAND, OR- Two of the four teens we reported on earlier this year have been sentenced to prison after beating a 16-year-old boy and carving a swastika into his face.

Back in February, 15-year-old Jenna Montgomery lured Dustyn Murrain into a shed during a snowstorm. Waiting inside the shed where Blue Kalmbach, 15; Jess Taylor, 17; and Shane Connell, 14.

According to the initial reports, the three teens struck Murrain in the head with a crowbar, shot him in the chest, groin and index finger with a bb gun, forced him to swallow a cat turd, and then carved a swastika into his forehead. All four teens were quickly arrested after Murrain ran from the shed and called for help from a nearby service station.

Montgomery, Kalmbach, Taylor, and 14-year-old Shane Connell were arrested and charged with second-degree assault, first-degree kidnapping, criminal conspiracy to commit first-degree kidnapping and first-degree robbery.

The teens told police the motive was retaliation for Murrain’s bullying, but this was later called into question after several comments on news articles stated Murrain hadn’t lived in the area long and considered the teens his friends. The “bullying” was allegedly a derogatory comment Murrain made about one of the teens on Facebook.

Montgomery and Taylor both pleaded guilty to kidnapping, robbery and assault charges and sentenced on Thursday. Montgomery will serve nearly 10 years in prison, while Taylor was sentenced to more than seven years. According to the victim’s mother, the teens cried in court as they heard their sentences.

“There was a lot of tears on their side,” Kelli Murrain said. “I don’t know if it was because they don’t like the amount of time they’re getting or if they really feel remorse for what they’ve done. I’d like to think they do but I don’t know.” She added that her son was recovering from the attack with help from friends and family.

As for Kalmbach, he will appear in court in August. Connell got lucky, because of his age, and was charged in juvenile court.

Craig Sytsma Mauled To Death By Two Cane Corsos While Out For A Jog -

Craig Sytsma Mauled To Death By Two Cane Corsos While Out For A Jog

METAMORA TWP, MI – Craig Sytsma went out for a jog after work Wednesday afternoon, only to be attacked and killed by two Cane Corsos.

The 46-year-old was two miles into his run when a witness mowing his lawn noticed Sytsma was being attacked by two large dogs, grabbed a shotgun and tried to stop the attack.

“He sees the gentleman being attacked by a couple of animals,” said Metamora Township Police Chief David Mallett. “He decides to go down and help him, I don’t know how far he got to them before he decided, ‘I need something else,’ so he went back to his place and got a gun and came back down.”

The man was able to shoot one of the dogs, but did not kill it. However, it did stop them from attacking Sytsma. By this time, police had already received a call about a shooting and a man with a gun. When they arrived on the scene they quickly realized they had just arrived on the scene of an animal attack.

One of the responding officers kept the two dogs at bay while emergency crews worked on Sytsma, but the poor guy would die from his injuries at a local hospital. If his death wasn’t tragic enough, the divorced father of three had just beat colon cancer a year ago.

The dogs, two 3-year-old Cane Corsos, were brought to Lapeer County Animal Control by their 45-year-old owner where they are now in quarantine. Mallett said a court hearing will determine the dogs will be euthanized. My guess is that they will be. Not just because they killed a man, but also because they have a past history of aggression.

Mallett said there was a report of a dog bite in May 2012 where the dog was returned to the same address of the owner of the two dogs that attacked Sytsma. In November 2013, there was a report of a man between 60 and 70 years old being bitten by a dog and taken to the hospital. As with the 2012 incident, the dog was returned to the same address.

Mallet was unsure if those reports involved the same dogs that were involved with Wednesday’s incident, but the woman who was bitten in 2012 believes so. April Smith says she was attacked by one of the owners’ Cane Corso while walking two dogs.

“When I was attacked, I didn’t even see it running up to us until it was directly behind me with its teeth out and growling viciously. We were about three houses past the yard the dog lives in, so he ran 50 yards to catch up to us. He tore my leg in three different places and I had to get medical attention. There was a lot of bloodshed and it was very severe. I had bruising for months and had to endure physical therapy. This caused me a lot pain.”

Smith said the dog only stopped attacking when the owner’s teenage son called off the dog. She ended up filing a lawsuit against the dog’s owner that was eventually settled. One of the stipulations of the lawsuit was that the dog owner put a fence around his house – a fence that does not currently exist.

“I cannot believe this happened to someone,” Smith said. “I’m not mad at the dogs, I’m so upset with the owners. I thought something would be done with these dogs, but nothing was done. Nothing was ever done. Those dogs are vicious.”

Lapeer County Sheriff’s Detective Jason Parks echoed Smith’s comments. “They definitely react when people are inside the room. They’re aggressive dogs.” Parks said.

The owner of the dog may be looking at more than a lawsuit this time around. Under Michigan law, a person may be charged with involuntary manslaughter if he or she owns a dog involved in a fatal attack on a human. Looking at these dogs’ past history, and the fact that a fence was never constructed to contain them, could mean the dogs’ owner is in a heap of trouble.

It doesn’t help that one neighbor said when the dogs’ owner first moved into the neighborhood a couple of years ago, he came to introduce himself with a full-sized pet hawk on his arm while one of his Cane Corsos ran loose.

“I said, ‘Is he aggressive?’ And he said, ‘Yeah, everything I own is aggressive,’” the woman said, adding she’s called animal control multiple times because the Cane Corsos routinely ran loose and often swam in her pool.

Here’s the 911 call from a neighbor trying to report the incident. Listening to the call will help you get a better picture of what happened immediately after the attack, as well as learning what not to do when calling 911 during an emergency.

Tom Greer, 80, Has No Regrets About Shooting Pregnant Intruder To Death -

Tom Greer, 80, Has No Regrets About Shooting Pregnant Intruder To Death

LONG BEACH, CA – A home burglary turned to shit for two people after the 80-year-old homeowner walked in on them and ended up shooting a woman to death.

Tom Greer said he came home Tuesday night to find a man and woman inside his home. Greer said they both tackled him and jumped on top of him before robbing his safe of thousands of dollars.

What the couple didn’t know was that Greer was not defenseless… he had a .22 caliber Smith and Wesson revolver in his pocket. The pair ran from the home when they saw Greer was armed, but the woman wasn’t quick enough.

After firing at her in an alley behind his house, Greer said the woman stumbled and then begged for her life. “She says, ‘Don’t shoot me, I’m pregnant! I’m going to have a baby!’ And I shot her anyway,” Greer said.

When asked what happened next, Greer said he shot the woman a second time. “She was dead. I shot her twice, she best be dead … (The man) had run off and left her,” he said. “I shot her so that’s going to leave a message on his mind for the rest of his life.”

Greer was taken to the hospital to treat a severe shoulder and collarbone injury. Police have not identified the woman, who was found dead at the scene, aside from saying she was in her ’20s.

One of Greer’s neighbors told reporters that the couple may have stolen Greer’s car in another incident and that Greer had been robbed several times before. “Apparently the couple has been doing this neighborhood for quite some time,” he said.

Long Beach Police are still investigating, but at this time no one has been arrested – including Greer. I’m not sure what a jury would do to Greer if he is charged and stands trial, but from what little I read on California’s castle doctrine his actions were not quite covered by the law. According to California Penal Code Section 198.5, homicide is excusable if:

Any person using force intended or likely to cause death or great bodily injury within his or her residence shall be presumed to have held a reasonable fear of imminent peril of death or great bodily injury to self, family, or a member of the household when that force is used against another person, not a member of the family or household, who unlawfully and forcibly enters or has unlawfully and forcibly entered the residence and the person using the force knew or had reason to believe that an unlawful and forcible entry occurred. As used in this section, great bodily injury means a significant or substantial physical injury.

Personally, I have no sympathy for people who are killed while committing home burglaries. But prosecutors may have to charge Greer despite the circumstances. That first shot may have excusable, even though the woman was running away, but that second shot may cause Greer some serious legal issues – double trouble if it turns out the woman actually was pregnant.

Man Slit Girl’s Throat After She Convinced Mom To Break Up With Him -

Man Slit Girl’s Throat After She Convinced Mom To Break Up With Him

MIAMI, FL – Miguel Ruiz Lobo, 42, has been accused of killing 11-year-old Martha Guzman after the girl talked her mother into breaking up with him.

On June 22, Guzman was found dead inside the home she shared with her mother and three-year-old brother. Her neck and wrists had been slashed. Her death was originally believed to be a suicide since Guzman had a history of cutting, but autopsy results revealed her death was a homicide.

Focus quickly turned to Ruiz, the ex-boyfriend of Guzman’s mother. Ruiz used to live with the family, but Guzman’s mother had broken up with him five months ago at the urging of her daughter.

During their investigation, police noted Ruiz had fresh scratches on his arms and face, so they took a swab of his DNA and sent it off to be tested against fingernail scrapings collected from Guzman. He told police he had not seen the girl in days, but police had proof that was not true.

They had surveillance footage from a neighbor’s security camera that showed Ruiz entering Guzman’s apartment at approximately 10:28 A.M. on the day of the murder, and leaving the apartment approximately 30 minutes later. No one else is seen entering the apartment until Guzman’s mother came home and found her daughter at approximately 2:28 P.M.

Police say they knew Ruiz was lying to them about his involvement in the girl’s death from the beginning, but they had to be patient and wait for a case to be built against him.

That wait ended when the DNA they collected from Ruiz matched the samples taken from Guzman’s fingernails. Before 220 pound and 6-feet, 4-inches tall Ruiz overpowered Guzman, the little girl had fought for her life.

“We believe that he subdued her quickly, and during that time is when she was able to get in a few scratches on his face and on his arms. He’s such a huge monster of a man that could control her easily,” said City of Miami Police Chief Manuel Orosa. “He restrained her and after he killed her, he slashed her wrists. The wrists were slashed so far deep, that it almost came off her arm.”

Ruiz was arrested on Monday on first degree murder and occupied burglary charges. He has since invoked his right to council and is no longer talking to authorities.

Investigators feel they have a clear motive; Ruiz blamed the 11-year-old for ending his three year relationship with the girl’s mother, so he slit her throat as revenge.

“It all stems from the little girl and her mother did not get along with Mr. Ruiz, who was the boyfriend of the mother, and eventually the little girl convinced mom to break up with Mr. Ruiz,” said Miami Police Chief Manuel Orosa. “Mr. Ruiz was not happy about it. He returned to the house when the girl was alone. He used a key that he knew the whereabouts of the key, and we believe he entered and killed the young lady.”

Guzman’s mother said she never thought her daughter committed suicide and was just waiting for police to prove it. “From the moment I found her, I never thought she committed suicide because I know my daughter,” she said.

Man Beat His Two Cats To Death With Golf Club Because They Betrayed Him

ERIE, PA – Christopher Bisbee pleaded guilty Monday to beating his two cats to death with a golf club after one of the cats betrayed his trust.

Acting on a tip last June, Humane Society Animal Enforcement Officer Merle Wolfgang responded to Bisbee’s residence after someone there found the cats’ bodies in a trash can with “apparent trauma to their heads.”

Several people at the residence told Wolfgang that Bisbee, 32, was the person responsible. When interviewed, Bisbee admitted to killing the animals.

According to court records, Bisbee felt “betrayed” by the animals after one of them scratched him, so he responded by retrieving a golf club and using it to bash their brains in.

Investigators said Bisbee told them he “struck both cats numerous times with a golf club until they no longer were moving.”

Bisbee was charged with two counts of animal cruelty, but pleaded guilty to one second-degree misdemeanor count of cruelty to animals. The charge carries a maximum penalty of two years in prison and a $5,000 fine. Per the plea agreement, the second count of cruelty to animals would be dropped.

Also part of the agreement is the stipulation that Bisbee not own any domestic animals while serving his sentence and must pay $263 restitution to the Humane Society of Northwestern Pennsylvania. Bisbee will find out if Judge Shad Connelly goes for the deal when he is sentenced on Oct. 7.

Bisbee’s lawyer said his client is already taking proactive actions, including waiving his right to a preliminary hearing and applying to the Accelerated Rehabilitative Disposition program, but was denied. Bisbee also sought mental health counseling and a report from his client’s doctor will be submitted to the court before sentencing.

Wolfgang said he’s just glad at least one of the two charges stuck. “If there are mental health issues, I am glad he is getting some help,” he said.

Man Sentenced For Beating Toddler To Death While Trying To Turn Her Gay -

Man Sentenced For Beating Toddler To Death While Trying To Turn Her Gay

FLINT, MI – Back in 2011, 23-year-old Donovan Haynes beat his toddler to death in an attempt to turn her into a lesbian. On Monday, a judge sentenced Haynes to 18 years and nine months in prison.

Ti’Airra Woodward was rushed to the hospital after the 2-year-old was found unresponsive in her mother’s basement. A medical examiner’s report indicated she died of internal bleeding from a lacerated liver caused by blunt force trauma to the abdomen.

There were also adult human bite marks all over the girl’s body.

Haynes was quickly taken into custody and would tell police that he only bit his daughter in the leg because she wet the bed. However, a pre-sentence investigation report claimed that Haynes beat the girl in an attempt to toughen her up and to turn her gay so she would avoid men like him.

Facing life behind bars on charges of open murder, first-degree murder and torture, Haynes eventually pleaded no contest to second-degree murder to avoid a trail which could have netted him 31 years in prison.

His attorney, Elbert Hatchett, stated that had they went to trial there would have been no likelihood of a jury finding Haynes not guilty.

Genesee County Prosecutor David Leyton said his office pursued the plea agreement instead of going to trial because flaws developed with the case.

“We had some concerns about the testimony of a key witness,” Leyton said. He added that Ti’Airra’s family was happy with the agreement.

On Monday, Genesee Circuit Judge Joseph J. Farah sentenced Haynes to 18 years, 9 months to 40 years in prison for second-degree murder and 5-15 years in prison for first-degree child abuse which will run concurrently.

Haynes tried to withdraw his guilty plea before he was sentenced, stating that he felt his attorney could have secured a plea agreement that included less prison time.

Judge Farah refused to let Haynes withdraw his plea, saying that a withdrawal was not in the interest of justice.

Hatchett said he has no sympathy for his client, who he claims is deranged, and said that Haynes needs to undergo psychological counseling while in prison.

Ti’Airra’s mother, Nakeesha Woodward, was in the courtroom for Hayne’s sentencing and said she felt Haynes was “playing with the court” and has no remorse.

Matthew Durham Accused Of Sexually Abusing Children At Kenyan Orphanage -

Matthew Durham Accused Of Sexually Abusing Children At Kenyan Orphanage

EDMOND, OK – Matthew Durham, 19, has been charged with four counts of traveling to engage in illicit sexual conduct with children after he was accused of committing sex acts with children while volunteering at a Kenyan orphanage.

The crimes were allegedly committed between April 30 to June 17, when Durham made his fourth visit to the Upendo Children’s Home in Nairobi and requested to stay at the orphanage. On his previous visits in June 2012, June 2013, and in December, he stayed with sponsor families offsite.

According to court documents, a Kenyan caretaker who lives at the orphanage noticed some of the children were acting strange and decided to question them. They would tell the caretaker that Durham had been sexually abusing them.

The founder of the children’s home, Eunice Menja, told the FBI that when Durham was confronted with the allegations that he admitted he’d sexually assaulting between four and ten children of both sexes between the ages of 4 and 10 – including one who is HIV-positive. She said he even wrote out a confession in which he admitted to raping at least three children and forced others to watch.

According to the affidavit, he also admitted he was “struggling with homosexuality and child pornography” and wrote that  any time he tries to read the Bible or pray, the image of him raping a young girl several times comes to his head. After making the confession, Durham fled home to Edmond, Oklahoma where he was arrested last Thursday at his parents’ home.

His lawyer, Stephen Jones, says Durham is innocent and that the “confession” was the result of intimidation and voodoo.

“The events that occurred in Kenya the last maybe five six days that Matt was there frankly reveal some sort of pseudo-tribal psychological voodoo practiced on him, including confiscating his passport, false imprisonment, keeping food from him one day, delay in allowing him to depart from the country, misleading his parents,” said Jones.

“I don’t think Hollywood could make up what happened at this so-called orphanage. We’re on the ground in Kenya now. We’re finding out a lot about these people. This place is right on the outskirts of Nairobi. It’s like some cult over there.”

Menja and her husband are both Kenyan immigrants who live in Oklahoma. They founded the Christian charity Upendo Kids International to help look after troubled, unwanted and neglected children in a community on the outskirts of Nairobi.

Every year, young Christian missionaries from the United States travel to the orphanage to “work” with the children. Durham volunteered there after raising money for the orphanage in his hometown, including giving a presentation at the Edmond Rotary Club.

Personally, I’m waiting for more info before making any judgement calls. I’m not saying that Kenyan orphans being molested by a Christian missionary is hard for me to believe – but if I were a 19-year-old in Kenya being accused of molesting orphans, I’d write down anything I was told if that meant I could get my ass back home to America and not have to run around Nairobi with a burning tire around my neck.

Terry Davis Accused Of Molesting Female Rottweiler Puppy

EDWARDSVILLE, IL – Police in Illinois have accused 43-year-old Terry Davis of molesting a female Rottweiler puppy.

Davis is facing three counts of sexual misconduct, which seems to be par of this sex offender’s course. He has a record of sex offenses dating back to 2003.

He’s been convicted of criminal sexual abuse by use of force and has two convictions for failure to report a change of address as a registered sex offender.

These most recent charges claim that last October, Davis performed three different sexual acts with a female Rottweiler puppy, witnessed by Davis’ former roommate and the dogs owner.

The owner states the dog became aggressive after these alleged incidents and had to be put down. Davis has denied the claims and remains in jail in lieu of $50,000 bail.

Despite his lawyer telling the court that Davis suffers from anxiety and depression and has trouble sleeping and staying focused, he was found mentally fit to stand trial.

Now Davis is waiting to see if court officials decide he’s a sexually dangerous person. If he is declared a sexually dangerous person, he may be confined to treatment as a result of a civil proceeding. If he is found not to be sexually dangerous, the case would proceed as a criminal proceeding.

A court-appointed psychologist concluded that Davis isn’t sexually dangerous, but another psychologist has yet to state his conclusions.

Logan Shepard, 4, Mauled To Death By His Uncle’s Two Pit Bulls

RIVERVIEW, FL – Authorities say 4-year-old Logan Shepard was mauled to death by his uncle’s two pit bulls as the boy ate ice cream.

According to Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Debbie Carter, the uncle had put the two dogs, both adult females, in crates in the front yard before Logan and his mother arrived at the home Saturday night.

While Logan’s mother, aunt and cousin chatted inside the home, Logan walked outside with a bowl of ice cream. The adults were not aware Logan was out of the home until they heard him screaming.

At the same time, two deputies conducting a traffic stop nearby also heard screaming and rushed to the home to investigate. Once there, they found Logan in the front yard with the dogs standing over him, a bowl of ice cream on the ground beside him. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Pet Resources Division of Hillsborough County took possession of the dogs, which were  euthanized the next day. They plan on testing the dogs to see if there were medical issues or other stressors that may have triggered the attack.

Pet Resources Division says they’ve had no previous calls regarding the dogs. No charges have been filed at this time, but the investigation is ongoing. It’s feared that once Logan walked outside, he let the dogs out of their crates.

Man Left Kids In Hot Car To Have Sex With Woman Behind Apartment

PETERSBURG, VA — Police have charged 47-year-old Juan Munford with felony child endangerment after he left his one-year-old twin daughters in a hot car while he had sex behind a duplex.

Neighbors who live on the 7900 block of Bull Hill Rd. called police after they heard Munford’s children crying inside the car Friday morning.

When police arrived on the scene, they found Munford’s children in a car in the driveway with the windows rolled down. As for Munford, police found him 30 feet away, behind an apartment building where he was having sex with a woman against a wall.

“We went around to the back of the duplex and discovered a male and a female engaging in sexual intercourse,” Prince George Police Capt. Brian Kei said. “At that point they made contact with the individual who identified himself as the father of the two twins.”

Police charged the woman with indecent exposure and released her at the scene. Munford was arrested on two counts of felony child endangerment and indecent exposure and spent the weekend in jail.

The children were taken to Southside Regional Medical Center as a precaution and placed in the custody of child protective services.
